Hair Loss (Alopecia & Thinning Hair)

Description: In Chinese medicine, hair health is closely related to the kidney, liver, and blood systems. Hair loss and thinning may result from blood deficiency, hormonal imbalance, chronic stress, inflammation, poor circulation to the scalp, or nutrient deficiencies. Rather than only treating the scalp, Chinese medicine focuses on correcting the internal imbalances contributing to hair loss. How Treatment Helps: Treatment is customized based on the individual and may include acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, supplements, red light therapy, and scalp therapies. Hair loss treatment may also include scalp microneedling, which mechanically stimulates the scalp and improves circulation. A specially designed hair growth serum is massaged into the scalp following microneedling to further increase blood flow and encourage activation of dormant hair follicles. The activation of dormant hair follicles can be influenced by multiple factors, including:
  • Hormonal balance
  • Nutrient availability
  • Blood flow to the scalp
  • Adherence to supplements and topical hair serum
  • Mechanical stimulation of the scalp
Treatment Frequency & Results: Treatment is typically performed 1–2 times per week for approximately 12 weeks, depending on the individual and how quickly they wish to see results. Some patients may begin noticing improvements such as reduced shedding or new growth as early as 3–4 weeks when protocols are followed as directed by Dr. Geensburg.
